Integrating Photo Story into the primary classroom setting:
- Where could this application be used?
Photostory could be introduced to students in a literacy block on poetry in the middle years classroom (Years 4-7). - How could this application be integrated?
Individually students could compose a piece of poetry and then use Photostory to enhance their poem with images, sounds and motion. An alternative would be to have groups of students select a published poem and create a Photostory to bring the poem ' to life '.
- What would students learn?
Students would learn how to use basic photo manipulation tools within the software. Students would also have the opportunity to practice voice/sound recording and to use transitions in a meaningful way. Significantly students are introduced to the idea that multiliteracies can convey meaning and emotion through images, sounds and motion. - Why should this application be used?
Students individually or in groups will be engaged in a hands-on creative project that takes a multiliteracy approach. The Photostorys can be shared with other class members or the school community. - Which key learning theory could be addressed?
This activity supports Dewey (Social Activism Theory): hands on engagement, inter-disciplinary tasks, real world application ( meaning is created through linguistic, visual, oral modes ), social experience of sharing/celebrating creative projects.
