  • Where could this application be used?
Serif Draw Plus could be used to assist students to investigate and communicate scientific findings in a Life and Living unit focussing on the life cycle of plants.

  • How could this application be integrated?
In groups students could take daily photographs of a bean sprout (seed to seedling).  Students could then use Serif Draw plus to create a animation of the growth of the plant.  The drawing tools available in Serif Draw plus could be used to illustrate the application of fertiliser or to point out the first leaf on the bean sprout.

  • What would students learn?
Students would learn how to create simple stopmotion animations using Serif Draw plus.  They would also have the opportunity to explore some of the programs drawing features.  Students would also learn the value of visual literacy to illustrate scientific concepts and ideas.

  • Why should this application be used?
This application is a valuable tool in the classroom to create an engaging, hands-on experience that links to real world applications.  The application of stopmotion animation to view the growth of a plant provides a unique learning experience for students

  •  Which key learning theory could be addressed?
This application supports constructivist approaches to learning including Social Activism theory (Dewey) and Discovery Learning (Bruner).  The group learning experience is collaborative and linked to the real world of scientific discovery.
