Edmodo could be used by middle school students in cross-curricular school projects.
- How could this application be integrated?
Students could use Edmodo to share group ideas and resources (links to websites, videos) and to ask the teacher questions in relation to their project. There is also the potential for students to access this information for homework tasks related to their project.
- What would students learn?
Students would learn how to contribute effectively to a 'threaded conversation' and the etiquette of micro-blogging. The value of sharing resources and participating a a community of learners could be highlighted to students.
- Why should this application be used?
Social networking/micro-blogging sites like Facebook and twitter are becoming common communication tools amongst young people in society. It is important for students to gain the knowledge and skills to operate and communicate effectively in such an environment. Edmodo has been specifically designed to provide a safe and private environment for students and teachers to explore micro-blogging activities.

The collaborative nature of micro-blogging activities supports a social constructivist approach to learning. The teacher can scaffold activities and guide students to work independently and collaboratively in a micro-blogging environment.
